Antique Redferns of Ripley Drapery Shop Metal Office Sign Plaque A long antique metal company plaque for Redferns of Ripley Ltd, a drapery and soft furnishings business established in 1871 and operating into the 1930s. The plaque reads “Redferns of Ripley Ltd. Registered Office”, with recessed lettering cut into the surface rather than raised. It has a wonderfully aged coppery-brown patina with areas of verdigris, tarnishing and surface wear, giving it a very attractive decorative finish. This would originally have been mounted to the business premises, office entrance or registered office area, and is a lovely surviving piece of shop, textile and local history. At 76 cm long, it has real presence while still being slim and easy to display. A particularly appealing piece for collectors of antique trade signs, drapery and haberdashery history, textile-related antiques, Ripley or Derbyshire local history, shop fittings, architectural salvage and decorative industrial interiors. It would display beautifully above a doorway, along a shelf, in a hallway, studio, workshop, shop interior or period home. ConditionGood antique condition with age-related wear throughout. There are surface marks, scratches, tarnishing, oxidation, verdigris and areas of old discolouration, all adding to its character and patina. There are several old fixing holes from previous mounting. The plaque has not been over-polished and retains a very good aged surface. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description. DimensionsH: 3.7 cm x L: 76 cm EraLate 19th to early 20th century, likely c.1900–1930s.
