George Monk Ltd Wooden Trade Crate Tripe Dressing Blackburn c1920 An original early 20th century wooden trade crate stencilled for “Tripe Dressing” from George Monk Ltd of Blackburn. Constructed from softwood boards with finger-jointed corners, iron wire strapping and hand-cut carry holes to each end, this is a genuine utilitarian crate used within the meat and tripe processing trade. The exterior retains strong original stencilling, including the company name, product description and telephone number, alongside layers of worn paint, surface abrasion and handling marks acquired through industrial use. The interior is plain and functional, consistent with commercial food transport rather than domestic storage. Today the crate works exceptionally well as rustic storage, retail or studio display, or as a prop for period interiors, with its typography and honest wear giving it strong visual impact. ConditionAuthentic working condition consistent with an early 20th century trade crate. Structurally solid with stable joints and base. Heavy surface wear, staining, paint loss, old residues and corrosion to metal strapping are present throughout and are entirely consistent with age and original use.
